Swedish metal band Sabaton's "The Tour To End All Tours" concert film aired in theatres in Europe, the UK and Australia on October 11, 2024. As a huge Sabaton fan, I visited my local UK cinema to check out this heavy metal concert experience.
I was fortunate enough to attend the London date of "The Tour To End All Tours" last year on April 15, 2023. It was a spectacle, especially since it was my first time seeing Sabaton. It was a memorable and fantastic show with fire, guns and dramatic theatrics. It is one of my favourite shows so far, so I was excited to relive that experience in this cinematic experience.
The concert aired was filmed during their European part of the tour at Amsterdam's iconic Ziggo Dome Venue in 2023 on May 3. If, like me, you attended the tour, this was essentially the same show, but I can see why they picked the Amsterdam crowd for the unique recording, as they were a particularly impressive and lively crowd that exceeded expectations when prompted by the band to singalong or get their phones out or any other command.
The explosive concert film captures the essence of Sabaton's gigantic and passionate stage presence and showcases the band's ability and showmanship to entwine and tell historical tales through heavy metal. Any fan of the band will rejoice at this cinematic event, and fans like me who have seen them in person live at that tour or any other show they attended will also have a blast reminiscing what it was like and being able to experience it again in a new way. The show is filmed expertly and makes you feel like you are part of the crowd, which is a somewhat confusing setting in a cinema as you feel like you should cheer and get out of your seat, unlike when seeing a regular film. The set list for the show was diverse and well received with hits such as 'The Last Stand', 'Stormtroopers', 'To Hell and Back' and 'Christmas Truce', which I think is the earliest Christmas song I have heard, seeing as only October but I can't complain as it's one of best metal Christmas songs out there!
Any Sabaton fan will love this, whether you have been lucky enough to see them live or if the cinema experience is your first taste, especially as it was the band's biggest tour yet.
For American fans, the concert film will hit cinemas later this month in North America on October 30 & 31, 2024.
