Following the success of the band’s award winning, chart-busting album Smile on Earache Records, which hit the No.2 spot in 2023, Skindred announce an inspired list of supporting artists for their Smile (Again) UK Tour this coming autumn. The news comes hot on the heels of the band winning Best UK Artist at the 2024 Heavy Music Awards last month.
Joining the Newport ragga-nu-metallers on the road will be As December Falls, Nonpoint, Graphic Nature, Dream State, Blackgold, Scruffy Bear, North Atlas, Deadwax , Redhook, Torus, Native James, Mother Vulture, Motions & Ward XV1 .
Skindred drummer Arya says, “We have been mulling over who best to join us on our UK tour this autumn and as everyone knows we love to shine a light on new and emerging talent. I am sure you will agree we have some amazing bands joining us for these shows including the likes of As December Falls Graphic Nature, Dream State, Torus, Blackgold, Scruffy Bear, North Atlas & many more. It’s all about supporting the next generation of new talent and keeping music live. And it is also about paying it both back and forwards, which is why we are stoked to be able to have the brilliant US band Nonpoint from Fort Lauderdale, Florida join us for some shows. When we first rocked up in the USA many years ago Nonpoint were the band that gave us the opportunity to support them on their US tour. So we are stoked to have them join us for some shows.”
One band who were also offered a special opening slot on the band’s Liverpool show are theatric metal band WARD XV1 who were added to the bill after they played a trick on the band while Skindred were doing an instore signing in a record store. The band had Skindred sign a folded piece of paper not realising that on the carefully folded half there was a ‘contract’ saying: “We, Skindred, promise to offer Ward XV1 a support slot on our upcoming tour”, which the band unknowingly signed.
Seeing the funny side, frontman Benji and the band wanted to honour the prank with the fun and innovative spirit with which it was intended.
Meanwhile the band’s single ‘Gimme That Boom’ has been used as part of the soundtrack to the new EA Game Madden NFL 25 .
Benji says of it, “I’ve been playing Maddan for over 15 years (and I’m shit at it) but I always thought how much I would love to have one of our songs in this game and, lo and behold, it’s happened. Dreams do come true!”
