VetoCode formed in 2023 out of a desperate hunger to make great music, they are a 3-piece grunge/rock band with their roots loosely plunged in punk tinged soil.
The band comprises original members Jude Herbert, their very multi talented singer, songwriter and lead guitar interweaving hard hitting riffs and melodies into a cacophony of anthemic ear worms. Alex Ponisi holds it down on the bass and vocals, bringing a technical level of lower frequencies so tight and flavoursome that combined with the foundation of the band on drums, Jeremy Hamill. They have built a home fit to house their energetic creativity. Jeremy has the control, precision and timing to unleash a thunderous contagious passion that ignites and amplifies audiences.
Alex and Jude having previously worked together joined forces with Jeremy who had the skill set to lock in tightly to form VetoCode.
Band influences such as Foo Fighters, Green Day and Nirvana were to be among the band disciplines that inspired the lads to, as they said, “we just want to write a good song, and serve it well to get the best result”. The sound they ended up with is raw yet refined, fast and catchy and it’s somewhat of an oxymoron at times, but it feels right.
Theatres, clubs, and music festivals are among the many venues where VetoCode have performed in Kildare and more recently nationwide. The band love performing and are really looking forward to more of the same in the future as they extend their original music portfolio.
On the song 'Morphine':
The song came together quite quickly and easily for the band, once that chilling opening riff was heard it set the tone for what was to follow. The first vocal line to enter the arena was anthemic “Another time and place, crawling back to you” This line laid down the groundwork for the context of the song. “The song explores the feeling of being inadequate in a relationship and the vulnerability that the heart and soul are exposed to”. It also draws attention to how we can become so absorbed in relationships and yet not aware of it and sometimes to our detriment “I won’t keep you satisfied until you take it all”. “Morphine” unveils a depth of feeling that compliments the contrasting musical ideas that are used to deliver the emotion of the song.
Next on the agenda was recording! This was the band’s debut song, and it was no great surprise as to who would record it. This task fell to SoundForm Media. A recording studio which is based at Judge Roy Bean’s, in Co. Kildare. The vision for the mix was simple, make it raw, dynamic and most of all impactful! It was a surreal experience and where a fledgling of an idea blossomed into reality. “Morphine” is out on 1st March, so be sure to get it into your eardrums.
