Following on from their most recent offering ‘Home For Halloween’, Eora/Sydney-based punk rock group Clay J Gladstone have advanced with their strident new single ‘Hate Club’ – produced by Shane Edwards (The Libertines, Trophy Eyes, You Me At Six).
‘Hate Club’ is a blistering two-minute wrecking ball, assailing with the emotional ingredients of angst and vitality. Stimulating melodies lead the charge, soaring above punching guitars and thundering drums, amicably hurling towards a fiery hook soaked in early-2000s reminiscence and raw morality.
Alongside the release is the accompanying music video – filmed, directed and edited by Colin Jeffs (Yours Truly, Diamond Construct). Shot at The Burdekin Hotel, featuring long take sequences and nostalgic aesthetics, the clip depicts the band performing the track in front of an enthusiastic live audience, while the plot centres around the multifarious pursuit of a love interest with a startling twist.
Clay J Gladstone talk about the meaning behind ‘Hate Club’:
“‘Hate Club’ is about a teenage relationship being torn apart by the jealous friends’ group, only to have those same jealous friends slide into your DMs months later. It is about standing your ground in a relationship and calling out poor behaviour when you see it; being comfortable hunted by the ‘Hate Club’.”
In the live arena, Clay J Gladstone have shared the stage with the likes of Hellions and Deadlights, and recently completed a regional AM/PM Emo Night Tour as main support for Ocean Sleeper. The band have also sold out multiple hometown headline shows at venues such as The Burdekin Hotel and The Factory Floor.
Previous singles from Clay J Gladstone have been widely supported by the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, triple j, triple j Unearthed, The Faction, 2SER, Radio Adelaide, 4ZZZ, Aussie Music Weekly, and Idobi Radio (USA). The band have also received online praise from New Noise Magazine (USA), Surviving the Golden Age (USA), Dusty Organ (USA), Pilerats, Hysteria Mag, HEAVY Mag, Milky and AAA Backstage.
