In 2018, Bart Vandeportaele left Spoil Engine after an eight year run. During his time in Spoil Engine he performed at Wacken, Graspop, Summer Breeze, Pukkelpop, AB and many more. In the years since, he has been focused on writing songs in his home studio without any limitations. Vandeportaele began working with vocalist Sven Herssens (Fields of Troy) to find the distinct sound they were aiming for: heavy, pounding music with catchy, diverse vocals and melodies. In the fall of 2020, Bert Nauwynck (Diecast Unit), Lothar Ryheul (Fields of Troy) and Dennis Wyffels (Lethal Injury / Bloodrocuted) joined the project and pushed the songs to a higher level. As they were writing and rehearsing this new project, the monster became real, and it was clear that they would be able to take these songs into the recording studio and on stage! MANTAH was born! This grouping of skilled musicians grew up on bands like Korn, Linkin Park, and Slipknot. The influence of 90’s nu-metal is heard throughout their songs. Their love for electronic music is also displayed; they never shy away from breakbeats, samples or synths. Mantah has composed a collection of songs that are palatable for any ‘metalhead’. This band from West-Flanders, Belgium offers a modern sound to the current alt-metal scene. Mantah will be gracing stages in the fall of 2022. Their debut / release show is scheduled for October 29, 2022 at ‘Club de B’ in Torhout (Belgium).
Vocalist Sven Herssens commented on new song:
‘The song “The Enemy” is about overcoming our inner villain. As humans, we all go through daily pressures, struggles and difficulties that leave us with scars of negativity. We often see ourselves as our own worst enemy. For the second time in a row, we collaborated with photographer Bruno Dyserinck, who created a fantastic visualization of the lyrical theme.’
Guitarplayer Bart:
‘This is the last song we wrote before we went into the studio. We were still looking for a short, powerful song without difficult song structures. The focus for this song was entirely on creating a groovy rhythm section. On top of that we wanted a lot of emphasis on melodic vocal hooks.’
