December 2017 saw the creators of love metal, Finnish band HIM calling it a day. It hasn't been long but they are missed dearly already so we decided to be nostalgic and look back at some of their best music videos especially in aid of Valentine's day on the 14th February and them being the creators of 'love metal'. So let's take a look at 5 essential HIM videos to check out...
Funeral Of Hearts
This is a very scenic and beautifully gothic video in the snowy setting with decorative fire and with symbolism throughout. It captures their Finnish and love metal essence. An essential masterful video from the band.
Wings Of A Butterfly
It is very atmospheric, dark and cinematic video and well produced, making it one of their best and most stand out videos. The song is ridiculously catchy also, again another must-see video in their releases.
Buried Alive By Love
This was one of their best and most popular songs and videos. Set in an old picturesque gothic theatre and starring actress and singer Juliette Lewis. The effects and lighting used help give it that epic feel and highlight the big moments in the song and visuals compliment the music perfectly. It is a very iconic and classic HIM video.
Join Me
This captures their love metal and gothic side perfectly, especially with lead singer Ville Valo looking like a vampiric prince, The band perform in a cold ice cave which is very visually pleasing and intriguing with an evil looking ice queen lurking.
The Sacrament
This is a beautiful and haunting song, especially with the opening piano. The video is equally stunning and well produced. The video was produced by their close friend Bam Margera (skateboarder, actor, stunt performer and musician) who is probably best known for his work on Jackass. He really captures what the band are about and portrays them in a fitting light to match their sound.
That was tough as they have lots of brilliant videos!
What do you think - any that didn't make the list that should have been in there?!
Although HIM are no more we can still enjoy and appreciate their past work. Also if you want to know what the members are up to since they stopped see below (as well as past musical ventures):
Former frontman Ville Valo has a new project titled Ville Valo & The Agents. With the debut album out later this year in 2019. To find out more visit: https://www.facebook.com/villevalovirallinen
Valo has collaborated with many other bands and musicians during his music career also including popular Finnish bands The 69 Eyes and Apocalyptica.
Former drummer Gas Lipstick has been involved in another of different bands in his career but currently, along with HIM guitarist Mikko "Linde" Lindström who fronted rock n roll group Daniel Lioneye which he formed in 2001 with Valo and HIM bassist Mikko "Mige" Paananen. Even HIM keyboardist Janne "Burton" Puurtinen played in Daniel Lioneye for a bit. Now both Gas and Linde have reunited again in a new rock/metal band called Flat Earth which is pretty cool to see two members together again.
