Alestorm Live Review: Concorde 2 Brighton 12/10/14

It’s a Sunday Night and many of us will have work in the morning but that’s not stopping us from packing out the venue at Concorde 2 in Brighton where a mass of pirates have descended to witness Alestorm’s Piratefest.. The first support act Red Rum , are such a superb and appropriate band to support the mighty swash buckling scallywag’s that are Alestorm! Sometimes the first support band doesn’t grab the crowd’s attention, but Red Rum didn’t suffer this fate! They had the crowd dancing, singing and stomping their feet like they were crew on the decks of a drunken pirate party! This six piece neoclassical pirate metal band from East Midlands showed Brighton a hell of a good and hearty time, especially with their brilliant Lord Of The Rings rendition which fitted in nicely with their set! If you weren’t a fan before today you will be now! The second support act, Lagerstein hailing from Australia who describe themselves as ‘drunken pirate metal’ ke...

Blood Sugar Summer - “The Most Photographed Woman On The Planet" Single Review

Are you ready to hear something different?! Then look no further, listen to Blood Sugar Summer’s single, “The Most Photographed Woman On The Planet”, which is bound to be one of the most distinctive and peculiar songs you have heard!! This duo from Northumbrian, consisting of Benjo James (Vocals/Keys) and Jack Wilson (Guitars) have created their own unique and compelling genre with surprising elements!.. The interesting and intriguing titled single opens with an air of spacey ethereal opening synths, deep gothic inspired vocals and melancholic lyrics, such as, “S he was so lonely the girl, murdered by fame”, and “The world broke her heart”, which together with the dazzling contrasting pop sounds make their, ‘doomwave’ sound which seems appropriate to describe! The sound is somewhat perplexing with dark undertones through the vocals and distorted guitars, and then coated with shimmering upbeat synths creating a weird and wonderful experience! Fancy a bit of upbeat glo...

ARJUN - CORE Album Review

This three piece instrumental act from New York have put in a lot of effort to form their own unique sound by using elements of rock, jazz and experimentalism, and now they are back with their follow up to their trilogy "Space”, which was the first in a three-album trilogy, with the second ‘piece’ of the puzzle, “CORE” to untangle more creativity from the band..   Opening song, “Rocks” has a hopeful feel to it before sliding into a plethora of carefully constructed melodies and tones which help unravel a story solely through the use of clever instrumentation. You are left hanging on to every note that resonates out… “Deep Impact” continues this notion and the drums stand out more here, complementing the bass beats and melodic guitar riffs, along with a superb solo which highlights Arun’s talents further. Single “Core” changes dynamics, opening on a warped spacey experimental sound, then quickly transpires to a jazz blues vibe, i...
