London based, Abhorrent Decimation are fairly new to UK metal scene only forming back in 2013, but already they are creating quite an impact with their debut EP, 'Infected Celestial Utopia' and have been added to the line up of the rebirth of Brighton's metal Festival, MammothFest, with this coming up I caught up with vocalist, Ashley Scott in advance to talk about it, amongst other things..
As you only formed last year you have currently only released your debut EP, 'Infected Celestial Utopia', but what has the reaction been like so far for this release?
GREAT! We are really pleased with the response to our debut release. Our intention was always to grow from home outwards, work hard on the spreading the name and get the product out into the hands of fans and the UK has certainly received it well. We consistently deliver a brutal performance live and people have seemed to really catch onto what we are aiming for and trying to achieve here.
What was the recording and writing process like for the EP?
Stress free and easy. When this band started it was just McKinney (Lead Guitar) and I. Dave has a really great studio set up, which makes writing decent quality demo material quick and easy to edit. We was firing over ideas to each other using dropbox and we essentially had all the material for the record down in under a week. He was pulling riffs out of his arse quicker than I could write vocals for them. We spent a few nights at his place stripping them out and structuring it all, then over a couple of evenings I created the all the vocal parts. We then took our demo recordings to David Archer at Tidal Force Studios in Brighton and tracked the whole thing over a long weekend. He put in some decent shifts to get it done and we walked away with “Infected Celestial Utopia”.
How did you arrive at the wonderful title of “Infected CelestialUtopia”?
To me, the religious earth is one huge infection, I am repulsed that in this day and age a substantial portion of the earth continue flogging doctrines. So without going all arty and bizarre it’s a paradox based around what I see for these fuckers when the time comes for them to leave this earth. Anticipating afterlife, praying for eternal existence in a world beyond. I hope its everything they hoped for…
Earlier this year you supported Italian Death Metallers, Hour Of Penance on their UK tour, how did it go?
It was a great experience and something we wanted under our belts before the close of our first year as a band. It was great to meet the fans and see the reactions of a fresh room of people every night. Allthe bands on the package made it a fun time, cool guys and it was truly a pleasure. Everything ran smoothly thanks to our TM and Manager Josh @ Chaotic. We will be committing to a lot more tours in 2015 for sure.
You are playing on the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock, how does it feel to be playing such as prestigious festival so early in your career?
Ah, we can’t even compute it. It still doesn’t feel like we are playing it to be honest. The experience can only strengthen us. It puts us on a great platform to play to a huge volume of people and for the day, rub shoulders with some of our all time inspirations. In other bands some of the us have done some really cool festivals before, but this is one of the big ones for the UK market. So we are thrilled!
You are also playing at the mighty return of a fairly new festival in
Brighton, MammothFest, how excited are you for this and what do you
think of the line up?
This is another great booking for the season, we know a lot of the guys playing this fest and the team laying it on, it’s a killer line up. So its going to be a great weekend and we are delighted to be a part of this fest as it puts itself on the map.
How does it feel to be invited to be part of what could be a major milestone for Brighton and South East of England Metal scene with MammothFest?
Great, we really have a lot of time for Steve and the team so we wish them all the luck in making something spectacular for the South East and beyond! It just needs the support of every person who moans about there being no shows to COME DOWN. You have a killer show on your doorstep. Tickets are cheap and it’s a great area.
You said you were planning on playing some new material at MammothFest, what can fans expect from the new songs?
Way more blasts beats in the new stuff, solos remain and its just taken a step up in the “solid as fuck” department.
Speaking of new songs, how far are you into the process of putting
together a full length release?
We are about half way now. We have a lot more influence this time round, we have bedded in with the complete line up now to make this record exactly what we wanted it to be from the start. We are being meticulous about this record. Our debut album is a really big deal for us. It needs to fulfil the wishes of 5 individuals and be strong enough to put Abhorrent Decimation well and truly on the map. We have already begun the process of organising the tours for the record and can not wait to reveal more.

What other plans have Abhorrent Decimation got for 2014?
We are keeping the diary open for album/studio time to be honest. We have a few shows lined up for later in the year and we will be doing some UK dates around Christmas time just to maintain our presence in the scene until the album explodes in your lap in 2015.
